All remaining hostages in the Malian siege in which at least three people are known to have died are now safe and have left the Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako where they were held, a Malian ministerial adviser has said. Amadou Sangho told French television station BFMTV: “These people have been taken under the wing of the civil authorities.” Malian commandos earlier stormed the luxury hotel after Islamist gunmen took hostage 170 people, including many foreigners, in the capital of the former French colony, which has been battling rebels allied to al-Qaida for several years.
